EMS & Sea Parcel to the USA Has Resumed — Important Customs Update

Effective from September 22, 2025

What Has Changed?

All U.S.-bound EMS shipments are now DDP (Delivered Duty Paid).
Duties and clearance fees must be prepaid in Korea before the shipment is dispatched.

However, the final amount of duties/fees is not known until postage has been paid and the package has been submitted and accepted by Korea Post. Because of this, we cannot include duties in your initial shipping invoice.

Current Estimated Customs & Clearance (Guide)

You can decide and enter the declared value at the time of shipping payment.
Total customs & clearance ≈ 15% of the declared value (duty) + 10% of the duty as Korea Post clearance fee (≈ 1.5% of declared value) + US $1.04 (VAT excluded).
So you may expect roughly ~17–19% of the declared value in total, as a preliminary estimate.
This may vary depending on country of origin, item category, and changes in Korean tariff rates.

System roadmap: Korea Post plans a system upgrade during October, after which shipping payment including duties may be possible. Until then, EMS and Sea Parcel can be shipped under the temporary conditions noted below.

EMS Is Available — With the Following Conditions

Step	Condition
1️⃣	You pay the shipping fee as usual.
2️⃣	You must maintain a customs deposit in your account.
3️⃣	The deposit must be at least 50% of your declared value, and no less than ₩100,000.
4️⃣	After Korea Post accepts the shipment and duties are confirmed, we will deduct the actual duty from your deposit.
5️⃣	CBP (U.S. Customs) may re‑evaluate items and charge additional duties to you.

Cost Notes & Declaration

EMS generally has lower clearance fees than private couriers (e.g., FedEx/DHL).
Please avoid excessive under-declaring. EMS customs inspections may be strict initially.

About Gifts Under $100

In principle, gift shipments under $100 may be eligible, but there are many restrictions (e.g., new items not allowed), so actual acceptance is uncertain. In the early phase, it should be considered nearly impossible. The final decision is made by CBP.

변경된 점

미국행 EMS는 관세·통관요금을 선납(DDP)하는 방식으로만 접수됩니다.
한국에서 발송되기 전 관세 및 통관수수료를 미리 납부해야 합니다.

다만, 우체국에 배송비용을 결제하고 패키지를 접수·승인 받기 전까지는 관세·수수료 확정 금액을 알 수 없습니다. 이로 인해 최초 배송비 청구서에 관세를 포함해 청구할 수 없는 점 안내드립니다.

현재 공지 기준 통관비용(가이드)

세관신고금액 (Declared Value) 는 배송비결제시 고객님께서 결정 및 입력하실 수 있습니다
세관통관 총금액 ≈ 신고금액의 15% (관세) + 우체국 통관수수료: 관세의 10% (≈ 신고금액의 1.5%) + US$1.04 (부가세 별도)
따라서 일단 신고금액의 약 17~19% 수준으로 예상하실 수 있습니다.
단, 원산지/물품 종류 및 한국 관세율 변동에 따라 달라질 수 있습니다.

시스템 로드맵: 10월 중 우체국 시스템 업그레이드로 관세 포함 배송비 결제가 가능해질 예정입니다. 그 이전까지는 아래의 임시 조건에 따라 EMS/선박소포 발송이 가능합니다.

EMS 이용 조건

순서	조건
1️⃣	기존과 동일하게 배송비를 결제합니다.
2️⃣	관세 납부용 디파짓을 보유해 주셔야 합니다.
3️⃣	디파짓은 세관신고금액의 50% 이상, 최소 100,000원 이상입니다.
4️⃣	EMS 발송 후 관세가 확정되면, 해당 금액을 디파짓에서 차감합니다.
5️⃣	미국 세관(CBP)에서 물품을 재평가하여 추가 관세를 청구할 수 있습니다.

비용 및 신고 유의사항

EMS는 일반적으로 FedEx/DHL 등 특송 대비 통관 수수료가 낮은 편입니다.
초기에는 통관이 원칙적으로 엄격하게 진행될 수 있으므로, 과도한 언더밸류는 지양해 주세요.

100달러 이하 선물 인정

원칙적으로 가능하다고 하나, 새상품불가 등 제한사항이 많아 실제 적용이 될지는 불확실합니다. 초기에는 거의 불가능하다고 보셔야 할 것 같습니다. 최종 판단은 CBP에서 합니다.
